Our events don't happen without volunteers. Every judge, referee and helper on event day gives West Tennessee teams the chance to show what they've built. No FIRST LEGO League experience is needed: we'll match you to a role and FIRST provides the training.

West TN FLL Challenge Championship

Roles you can sign up for: Judge, Referee, Judging Queuer, Robot Inspector, Assign me as needed

Judges and referees are needed for the whole day. You'll need a FIRST account and a completed Youth Protection screening; training links come in your assignment email.

Practice events will appear here too if they are announced. All dates are on the Calendar of Events.

What volunteers do

JudgeMeet teams in a judging room and talk with them about their Innovation Project, Robot Design and Core Values, using FIRST's rubrics. Whole day.
RefereeRun robot game matches at the competition tables and agree each score with the team. Whole day.
Judging QueuerKeep the day on schedule by gathering teams and bringing them to their judging rooms on time.
Robot InspectorCheck each team's robot and equipment against the rules before their first match.
Assign me as neededNot sure where you fit? Pick this and we'll place you where help is needed most.

How signing up works

  1. Click "Sign up to volunteer"

    Use the button for the event above. It opens FIRST's volunteer sign-up for that event.

  2. Log in to FIRST

    Log in with your FIRST account, or create a free one. If you've coached or volunteered before, use the same account.

  3. Choose your role

    Pick the role you'd like from the list.

  4. Complete the Youth Protection screening

    FIRST requires a Youth Protection (YPP) background screening for adult volunteers. If yours isn't current, the Dashboard walks you through it.

  5. Watch for your assignment email

    Once you're screened and placed, FIRST emails your role along with links to its training. Judges and referees should finish the training before event day.

Team mentors support a team's learning through the whole season. It's the most rewarding way to volunteer, and also the biggest commitment. Email fll@nobox.org and we'll help you find a team near you.
